"A Favorite Getaway"
We have two favorite places to stay in the Monterey Peninsula., Sunset Inn made our "Top 2" list several years ago. The Continental Breakfast is just ok, but we go down the street to PG Juice and Java for coffee, so that is not what draws us. The rooms are roomy, comfortable and private. The cleanliness level is consistently spotless. Barbara is a wonderful hostess, and a genuinely kind and helpful person. There is a variety of room types and amenities to chose from, so you can have a less expensive quick overnight, a romantic week-end, or a full family week with kitchen and extra room to spread out your gear. The area of town is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. It is within reasonable walking distance to town, or the ocean. There are seasonal specials so that those of us on a budget can still enjoy this delightful place. We try to get over to this nice little inn at least twice a year, making the next trip in July at least a dozen visits for us.

“Clean, quiet, cosy, and comfortable at a great price--an excellent value!”
We very much enjoyed our stay at Sunset Inn. The furnishings were very nice, the amenities were excellent--what I would have expected at a higher end hotel. Great coffee, nicely appointed bathrooms, shutters that cut out noise, very clean wood floors, and a fireplace. And all at a very affordable price.
The Inn is within walking distance of the ocean and not far from downtown Pacific Grove. It's in a quiet, wooded neighborhood without a sense of being a commercial property. We hope to stay there again in the future.

"Can't give anything but five stars."
We've stayed at the Sunset Inn three times now (2005 and 2006, before the remodel, and September 2010) and we've never been anything but pleased with our experience.
Even before the rooms got an overhaul, we were infinitely fond of this place. If nothing else, the location is a huge plus. Right next to the water, deer roaming around everywhere, extremely quiet. Exactly what you're looking for in a romantic visit to the area.
Post-remodel, it's even better. The fireplaces and jet tubs are still in place, but gone is the 70's look, replaced by hardwood floors, marble in the bathrooms, better lighting, a flat screen TV and a mini-refrigerator. Free Wi-Fi included too. And even though we had to get a queen this time instead of a king, we certainly didn't feel shortchanged.
My photos really tell the story of what you're going to get. Take a look.
We were so sad to leave. This is our permanent spot here and we will always return on our trips up north.
